Hi, welcome to TechResources!
This platform was made because I have often had channels called #resources
in various chat apps, for linking interesting techy tools, websites and such. I also wanted a social element to it, but in chat apps that can get complicated. Civil discussion about things is very much encouraged!
This platform is invite only, but if you want to invite someone or get invited, feel free to contact me on Fedi: https://scalie.zone/@aks . I will prioritize any mutuals and followers over people I don't know at all. I want to grow this forum really slowly.
Now, read the rules or I will be sad and cry.
Basic rules
It's rather simple really:
- This is invite only forum and if you're being a nuisance, you're out.
- Do not use "AI" for any of the posts. "AI" is not a source. "AI said this is good" is not a source.
- In general any discussion revolving around the generative "AI" stuff, cryptocurrency etc. is not welcome in here. There are plenty of places to discuss that.
- No NSFW stuff
How to Post
Name the title of the post after the resource.
If in doubt, use the resources own title.
There are three main tags, and unlimited secondary tags
- Link, for anything that is link to a text tutorial, blog post, anything like that
- Asset, which is either link or uploaded file, for example a site for 3D models
- Offtopic, for anykind of regular discussions on nontechy things or memes
- Discussion, for talking about techy news for example
- Showcase, if you have some resource of your own you'd like to share.
- Video, links to videos
Select one of those, then a secondary tag that matches the content of your post.
These secondary tags will be made as requested. Let's try to keep them rather
simple though, something like lobste.rs has: https://lobste.rs/tags
In the post, link the thing you want to share.
It can be your own site too.
Then after that link, make section for archive links.
Use sites like https://archive.org/ and https://archive.is/ to create archived links of the resource.
If it's downloadable files, I don't expect anyone to archive those, but at least archive any links.
Avoid extraneous commentary or opinions on the resource in the thread starter.
If you wish to further comment on the resource, reply to your own post.
The thread starter message should be as "clean" as possible.
You are allowed to share small snippet/summary below the link though.
This can be just summary of what the resource is about or example snippet of code, etc.
There's really no hard rule on this, but keep it in mind. If you feel like the text you're going to write belongs inside (parentheses) then that's a good sign for posting it as separate comment 😃
Do not use this site as code hosting platform!
If you have code to share, like simple script, upload it to somewhere like https://codeberg.org/
and then share link to it here, with archival links.
However if you want to highlight specific part of the script, you can then use code blocks.
About Showcase tag
If you made the resource, be it link to blog, or bit of text, code snippet, anything you'd like to share, this is the tag to use.
Discussions about news
I was first a bit tentative about having this item, but I think we could use a platform where we can collectively and calmly discuss something. There are many platforms for having techy discussions, but.. Eh, what's one more?
I am not super strict with the rules, I just want to have some coherent posting method so it's easy to go through the links.
And last but not least, do not rely that this site will stay around forever.
Please write these same resources down to your own notes, if you want them to stay around.
Anyways, welcome and be resourceful 🙂
